On Saturday 17th April, Dead Haunted held their first investigation of OXFORD CASTLE.

This is a report based on the findings of the groups that I personally led.

VIGIL 1: SAXON TOWER
TEAM LEADERS: PHIL WHYMAN & TIM WAGSTAFF

We started our first vigil in the Saxon Tower, and were the only group to be situated here at this time.
Our group started the investigation using the Ouija Board, which produced some interesting personal information which seemed to be associated with one of our group; as this is personal information I will not divulge what this was in the hope you understand.
We then attempted a standing seance (when I say ‘we’, I mean our group as DH crew do not take part in the investigation experiments; we merely oversee them and supervise correct technique etc). It was during this seance that one of the members started to move back and forth, in a definite manner. This was something that they found very interesting as they were the only person this was happening to at the time, and he could not understand how this was happening; it is worth pointing out that the conditions were not ptich-black, so you could actually focus on our surroundings.

During this seance myself and others heard what sounded like a low growl, coming from beyond the door out into spiral staircase. Nothing could be found upon inspection.
END OF 1ST VIGIL

SECOND VIGIL
Again, Tim and I were partnered together to lead our next group, in the area known as St George’s Crypt.
During this vigil what is assumed to have been a stone / piece of masonry appeared to hit Tim on the arm; nothing could be found to account for this, as there was no loose masonry on the ceiling and he was not standing close to the walls.
During a ouija session, the torch – placed on the board to highlight the letters – kept dimming, seemingly on command of those taking part in the experiment. This continued to the point where the torch light was almost entirely extinguished! It is worth pointing out that the batteries had only just been changed for new (I did this!), and that the torch did not appear to have this issue after this vigil.
END OF 2ND VIGIL

THIRD VIGIL
My thrid vigil saw me team up withcrew member Keith Bowcott, as we investigated the Victorian Prison area.
Sadly on this occasion our vigil did not produce anything conclusive.
END OF 3RD VIGIL

FOURTH VIGIL
This time with Vince Draper. Slight ouija board / glass movement. Overall a quiet vigil.
END OF 4TH VIGIL

Other groups reported some very interesting findings / results, which may be posted later.

Overall we are all looking forward to our return to Oxford Castle in October this year…

On Saturday 13th March 2010 Dead Haunted held their 2nd event at this fantastic location. Here’s my quick rundown.

We kicked things off at about 9pm as per usual, where my first vigil location was the Barn.
After a short while my group started getting some interesting information from the Ouija board, concerning a child of the age of 6; it is worth pointing out that the DH crew – including myself – do not take part in the experiments so as to distance ourselves from any activity witnessed.
At the other end of the barn, group members tried their hand at automatic writing using the planchette. Nothing to note on this experiment, so we left it.
Towards the end of the vigil myself and 2 others went back to the automatic writing planchette to discover something strange had happened; a small length of rope had moved from the end of the table and had somehow been draped over the planchette!
END OF 1st VIGIL

My 2nd vigil area was the Lower Floor of the main house.
Again, interesting results here with knocking noises on command and people seemingly getting physically touched; everyone was very jumpy here.
The Scrying Mirror was also used here on this vigil, with more than one person claiming to see ’someone’ with a moustache reflected within.
A loud bang from the upper floor gave most of my group an almost instant heart attack, but it turned out to be somebody above dropping their torch! lol
All in all an interesting area.
END OF 2nd VIGIL

My third vigil took place in the Great Hall.
Try as we may we could not get any results from the Ouija board here.
Again, as the vigil progressed there was a commotion coming from the upper floor of the main house, which adjoins the Hall.
It appears that there was an object thrown which shocked the group there.

I feel I must add a personal note to this regarding such matters as objects being thrown whilst on DH events.
Unlike some reports (and even an email!) I have received from disgruntled participants who, having attended events with certain other well known events companies and have witnessed first had them faking activity or ‘helping’ along activity, DH crew NEVER resort to such measures. Put simply: if nothing is happening then so be it, nothing happens and that’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
END OF 3rd VIGIL

As the last of the group vigils, I got to visit the Barn area once again.
Glasswork /ouija board work wasn’t conclusive here in this vigil. The strangest incident would appear to have been what a witnesses described as someone walking past the barn door, but upon inspection there was no sight of anyone.
END OF 4th VIGIL

It was at this point that Free Time was then given, where participants can go to their favourite area / area of interest and conduct a vigil alone if they wish.

All in all another interesting investigation at one of our favourite locations. We will be back again in July 2010.

It was a brilliant night at Chillingham. I am a sucker for buildings like this too and I was in awe of the place for most of the night

Kev and I arrived early just as it got dark. We found one of the entrances to the castle and pulled in to wait fo the rest of the team. We pulled up at the gates and switched the lights off to save the battery and we thought we would eat some sandwiches that we had taken to pass the time. Imagine the seen, windy clear and very dark night, no moonlight or street lamps, and your parked next to a wood. All you could hear is the wind howling in the trees and you can’t see your hand in front of your face its so dark. No civalisation for miles. Kev is jumpy in the dark at the best of times and just as he switched his lights off and began to eat his sandwich, his seat belt clip pulled back and banged on the door, making him jump out his skin, his sandwich got stuck in his throat and he choked and spluttered for about 5 minutes! I meanwhile, found the whole thing hysterical and sat there in fits of laughter! Needless to say the lights were put back on sharpish

Shortly after, the other team leaders found us and took us to the proper entrance. We were greeted by an amazing sight. The castle looms up on you as you drive up the driveway it was breathtaking.

After we had finished admiring the stars – which were beautiful to look at – we were taken into the Minstrels Gallery to set up for the investigation. It was so atmospheric , especailly when the fire was lit later on in the evening.

The investigation throughout the evening was fascinating. I saw lights and heard noises that could not be explained in the tower room, someone/something pulled on my coat in the hall, a ladies face seemed to appear in my torchlight in the grounds for a second and then vanish and I heard a horse in the courtyard also witnessed by a fellow crew member, I did not take part in the seances this time as I was filming but the people that did take part seemed to get some good results. Although we were there until 5.30am, the time flew. I would love to go back and investigate some more areas of the castle. A lot of it is now apartments and staff quarters but I would love to investigate the whole building. Although there would not be enough paranormal evidence to convince the sceptics amongst you, it was enough to make it an interesting night, especially in those surroundings.

I would definately recommend this place to anyone.
